About panoramic pictures
Panoramic pictures show a whole scene as you would see it from one point of view. That means that 360° horizontally and 180° vertically of a scene are covered. To be able to view such full angle panoramas on a screen, only a certain field of view is being displayed while you virtually turn around by using your mouse - just as in real life, where your field of view is limited, too, and you just turn your head instead.
The interactive display is only possible with browser plugins. If you cannot install any of the plugins listed below, you can always view the "equirectangular" version of a panoramic picture, which is a normal image (see image on the right). However, the viewing experience is not as fun and realistic as the interactive one.
Viewing panoramic pictures
To navigate within a panoramic picture, click inside and drag the mouse into any direction. Use the [Shift] key to zoom in and [Ctrl] to zoom out. Or, in the Quicktime version, alternatively use the [+/-] buttons at the bottom of the panorama.
Browser plugins
PanoGallery offers to view the panoramic pictures with the following plugins: Quicktime, Flash, Shockwave and Java. Due to its prevalence, Flash is the default. However, its image quality during movement is lacking a bit behind, so feel free to click on the tabs above a panoramic picture and see which version you like most.
